Piedmont Global is seeking freelance Medical Interpreters to provide interpretation services from English into all spoken languages. Interpreters of all languages are encouraged to apply, with strong demand for Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Korean, Dari, Pashto, Urdu, Farsi, and Mandarin.
These are 1099 Independent Contractor opportunities. Assignments may be conducted on-site (OS), via video remote interpreting (VRI), or over the phone (OPI), depending on client requirements.
Interpreter Functions
• Serve as an interpreter between individuals with diverse accents, speech patterns, and communication styles
• Provide accurate, complete interpretations with no additions or omissions
• Interpret questions, responses, explanations, and medical discussions in real time
• Perform sight translation of documents when required
• Convey meaning, intent, tone, and emotion faithfully between languages
• Notify relevant parties of any factor that may impact performance
• Comply with professional ethics, confidentiality standards, and interpreting guidelines
Technical & General Requirements
• Valid driver’s license or government-issued photo ID
• Laptop or desktop computer with minimum 4GB RAM and high-speed internet
• Mobile phone available as a backup device
• Wired headset compatible with computer or phone (wireless headsets not permitted)
• Quiet, distraction-free workspace or home office
Minimum Qualifications
Medical Interpreting (Healthcare Settings):
• Certification from a 40-hour medical interpreter training program or equivalent (e.g., CHIT or similar)
• Minimum two (2) years of medical interpreting experience (paid or volunteer)
• Two (2) professional references OR one (1) professional reference and one (1) professional letter of recommendation
General Interpreting (Non-Medical Assignments):
• Minimum two (2) years of interpreting experience (paid or volunteer)
• Two (2) relevant professional references OR one (1) professional reference and one (1) professional letter of recommendation
• Native-level proficiency in English and the target language
Preferred (Not Required)
• University degree in Interpretation
• Certificate of professional interpreter training (40+ hours)

• Interpreter certifications
• Test results from recognized testing centers or language service providers
