Interpreter School: How Do Basic & Dual Enrollments Compare?
Interpreter school is a great way for bilingual adults to either make a career change or supplement income. Because medical interpreting requires so much more than simply knowing two languages. Getting your medical interpreter certification proves that you have acquired the skills and knowledge to provide professional language interpreting in medical settings. And our expert instructors teach you how to do it properly, through our LIVE and interactive online classrooms. But with so many language interpreter courses to choose from, how do you make the best enrollment decision for you? As a matter of fact, does it even matter how you enroll? If you want to become a medical interpreter, the short answer is yes, it does.
How many enrollment options are there for medical interpreter school?
The way you enroll in medical interpreter school matters, because each course focuses on different topics and skills:
- basic enrollment: provides the knowledge and skills required for entry-level medical interpreting work only.
- dual enrollment: involves 2 courses. Including the standard instruction course, and the advanced course. Which will help you study for and pass an official, state-issued medical interpreter licensing examination.
What does a basic enrollment involve?
The course: In order to enroll in the standard medical interpreting course, you must first demonstrate your language competency in 2 languages. One of them must be English but you can choose your target language. Throughout the 60-hour LIVE webinar course, expert instructors will teach you the skills, methods of interpreting and the medical terminology required for the job. To pass the course, you must prove that you have mastered all the information and pass our final examination.
The job: Medical interpreting training school teaches adults how to interpret medical conversation from one language to another. To put it another way, you would be working directly with Limited English Proficient clients (who have little to no understanding of the English language). This means you have listen to English-speaking doctors, and communicate the words to your clients in a different language. Passing our final exam allows you to find entry-level work as a medical interpreter, as you have gained a basic understanding of medical interpreting training.
What does a dual enrollment involve?
The courses: A dual enrollment means that you intend to become a licensed medical interpreter. To illustrate this point more clearly, you have to enroll in 2 courses: the standard instruction course AND the advanced study course. Because some students don't want to pursue a state-issued medical interpreters' license, we have created an accelerated program for the students who do. You must pass our standard medical interpreting course to enroll in the advanced course. Because it builds upon what was already learned, students will be able to study for their state's medical interpreter licensing exam and acquire knowledge of advanced subjects covered on the exam.
The job: Completing your dual enrollment courses prepares students to take and pass their state medical interpreter licensing exam. You will need that in order to find work at a hospital or interpreter organization. To even register for the board examinations, you must prove you have spent time learning how to become a medical interpreter. Our courses will satisfy those requirements, and provide a unique learning environment compared to other courses available. All of this adds up to earning more money, and more job opportunities as a licensed medical interpreter.
