National Medical Interpreting Exam Prep Course & What You Need To Know
Getting a medical translator certification (or medical interpreting certification) is a process, but a rewarding process for bilingual adults seeking to change their career. When one embarks on a journey to become a medical interpreter or translator, there are hundreds of medical interpreting training courses out there to choose from- but not all of them are created equal. A lot of those other courses are self taught, and students choose them initially to save a few dollars. It isn't until after paying a nonrefundable fee to register for national medical interpreting certification exam, that they realize those other courses didn't meet the standards. That is usually when we see those students- after all of that time, trouble and money was already wasted. At this point, you've either heard all about our 60-hour medical interpreter training course or have already taken it...if not, well, now is the time to get acquainted with what we do: provide quality medical interpreting training so our students can continue with long, successful medical interpreting careers. So what makes this course prepare students for the national medical interpreting exam?
Why are we offering a national medical interpreting exam prep course?
Officially, our new class is "Advanced Medical Interpreter Training & National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBMCI) Exam Preparation Program." As this is a very long title, in ordinary conversation we can call it advanced medical interpreter training, medical interpreter exam prep course or something that sets it apart from our standard medical interpreter training course. Why?
-
Because it is supplemental to our standard medical interpreter class 📚
A lot of students enroll in our medical interpreting program with no intention of becoming a licensed medical interpreter in their state. Some reasons might be they have an administrative job at a hospital, or they want to get a government job - whatever their reason for not getting licensed is their business. Our business is making sure every students completes and passes the classes. This class is for the students who want to become licensed but need to develop or enhance existing interpreting skills✅ to prepare for their exams. New terminology, techniques and strategies are taught to maintain the integrity of the standard practice and code of ethics for licensed interpreters. Therefore, you must prove you have passed the fundamentals of medical interpreting taught in our standard course.
This is a condensed course (30 hours) that builds upon the foundation of medical interpreting- that is taught in our standard interpreting class- and has been specifically designed for the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters exam.

If you want a good paying job, you will need an official medical interpreter certification 💸
Yes, you read that correctly. High-paying medical interpreting jobs require a license, or will only hire on the contingency that you pass your state administered certification exam. Hospitals need to ensure accuracy with translation services, as miscommunication can literally mean the difference of life or death.

Preparing for the national medical interpreting exam is no joke 🙇🏻♀️
A lot of people need to take the exam multiple times before passing, and that is nothing to be ashamed of. Students can study on their own, but a lot of our students have asked for a shorter course they can take right before their scheduled exam. These state-administered exams are not easy, and that's why it's so important to study as much as you can; because you will be the sole interpreter for doctors to understand what is going on with your patient. The stakes are high in this job, and hospitals, patients, their families and interpreters need to have a high standard for licensure and they need to know they can count on you to deliver.
