Position Summary:

Under the direction of the supervisor, provide oral medical interpretation for clinical and non-clinical encounters in verbal and written form in compliance with the IMIA Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics and BMC policies to ensure patient safety and access to quality care. The Interpreter II (Multi-lingual) interprets in at least two or more target languages and/or dialects. Translates from English into target languages and back, to allow communication between LES (Limited English Speaking) patients and hospital staff. Assists patients filling out forms, interpreting medical instructions, medication schedules and instructions. Provides administrative written translations such as letters to patients, documents, and patient materials. Tracks and documents encounters for reporting purposes.

Education:

• Minimum of 2 years of college (or equivalent combination of formal education and experience).
• A certificate of completion of a Medical Interpreting program offered at a college level.
• At least 1 year previous work experience where interpreting was a primary function of the job. Interpreter in a healthcare setting preferred.
