Part-time, Contract

Responsibilities:

1.serve as a bridge for patients and staff and supports the operations of the overseas treatment and 2nd opinion delivery;

2.Assist limited English proficiency (LEP) patients to access a full range of services available while helping patients to navigate the health care system;

3.Accurately document all interactions into the electronic medical records system;

4.Acts as a Cultural broker and informs providers and patients of relevant cultural issues to assist providers in delivering culturally competent patient care;

5.Maintain and improve expertise through appropriate continuing education;

6.Relay medical information between speakers of English-Mandarin Chinese in compliance with all office and hospital policies and procedures, particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent, passing performance of competencies listed in the MMIA Standards of Practice, and the Code of Ethics.

Job Description: Qualification requirements: • Must be bilingual in Mandarin Chinese and English • Formal medical interpreting training and satisfactory knowledge of medical terminology is required. • 1-year experience in a healthcare setting as a medical interpreter is strongly preferred. • Proof of medical interpreter training - minimum of 40 hours (college level interpreting training and National Certification preferred) • High level of customer service and a positive approach • General knowledge of cultural backgrounds of patients to be served • Good interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills • Knowledge of video communication software • Ability to accurately work in consecutive mode and sight translate into and from working language(s).
