Business Interpreter Training- What Do You Need To Know?

Business interpreter training for bilingual adults creates many possibilities for future career success. But if you are reading this, you probably know by now that you are going to need a lot more than language skills to become a language interpreter. Because the reality is that the job demands accuracy in high-stakes environments. There is no room for errors, so you must be confident in your vocabulary and your methods of providing language interpreting for businesses. Which is precisely what our course will teach you. But what else do students need to know about our business interpreter course before enrolling?

Thinking about joining our business interpreter training course? Here's what you have to understand before enrolling:

  • Know what our course is:

Prospective students should understand that all of our online courses are interactive. Interactive interpreter training means that whenever you have class, you are learning from a real instructor in real-time, along with a small-sized group of peers. You should expect immediate feedback, correction and personalized coaching from experienced language interpreters themselves. This is not going to be a standardized and repetitive online course, that requires you to learn from A.I or by watching videos.

We do NOT provide an interpreter's license at the end of the course...

Because only a state sanctioned office or government recognized entity can issue you an official interpreter license. To even register for your state's interpreting examination, you must prove that you have passed an instruction course. Each entity has different requirements for classroom hours in order to sign up for your licensing exam. You do NOT need to have a license to find business interpreting work, but this certificate course will satisfy the vast majority if you want to pursue it.

  • Know that this is a hybrid course:

A "hybrid" course is an innovative way of delivering the high-quality instruction we are known for. By making our online course more flexible to your schedules, busy students get the best of both worlds. Because our hybrid course combines the convenience of remote learning at your own pace, with the quality of our LIVE instruction. Your instructors lead each week off with an in-person lecture, just as they normally would. The only difference is, you get more time to complete the rest of your assignments for the week. By structuring class this way learning becomes more flexible, at a pace that is better suited to your busy schedules. This hybrid model is great for busy adults, and for those who just want to see if this is the career for them.

  • Know what to expect:

Legal interpreting, business interpreter training

Our business interpreter training course requires students to be bilingual before enrolling. Because language interpreting is so much more than just "knowing the words." Which is certainly a big part of it! But if you expect to learn a completely new language, well, then you need a different course. Because we are focused on teaching you how to provide professional business interpreting. And that is a skill that you must learn how to master, in our classroom... before your mistakes cause real-world consequences for other people. Here's an idea of what you will learn:

    • How to provide language interpreting for businesses, that is both accurate and appropriate for an assignment
    • Corporate jargon that is often used in business meetings and contracts
    • Financial, legal and technical terms
    • Simultaneous, consecutive and conference interpreting methods
    • Industry-specific terminology and how to adapt to changing client needs
    • Best practices for different scenarios
    • Ethics of business interpreting
    • Maintaining neutrality and confidentiality as business interpreters

  • Know that your success is in your hands:

We provide the tools for you to succeed, but ultimately, it is up to you to use them. Because the reality is, your career as business interpreters depends on your choices inside and outside of the classroom. For instance, we strongly encourage students to find mentor opportunities while actively enrolled in the course. This is not a course requirement so it is completely optional! But getting as much real-world experience as possible helps you learn more quickly. Plus, a mentor is someone who you can observe, who can offer advice and even connect you to professional opportunities. Here's how to ensure you are successful after your course ends:

    • Get a mentor and as much real-world experience as possible while enrolled in the course
    • Pass your language interpreter final exam and role-play
    • Network with your classmates and be willing to attend conferences
    • Join interpreter communities and associations
    • Attend our career workshop when your course is over
    • Continue improving whether that is by getting your interpreters' license, or continuing education - there is always more to learn! The most successful interpreters never stop looking for ways to improve.
