This 6-week Online Government & National Security Interpreter Certificate Training Program is designed to provide participants with the essential skills to become competent interpreters to work for federal government and national security agencies in the U.S.
Federal government and national security linguists work in a variety of fields, each with its own unique set of responsibilities and requirements. Each of these fields requires linguists to have a deep understanding of the specific vocabulary and cultural context relevant to their area of work.
In this course, students will review the primary fields where federal government and national security linguists are employed and study the vocabulary that they use in their interpretation and translation.
Here are some examples of what they might translate or interpret: diplomatic communications, military communications, intelligence reports, technical documents, public information, healthcare information, immigration documents, legal documents, and more.
We are accepting applications for our 30-hour 6-week Online Government & National Security Interpreter Hybrid Training Program that starts on January 12, 2026 and ends on February 18, 2026.
What is a “hybrid” program?
A hybrid course is a training program that integrates live, real-time classes led by instructors with a self-paced, online self-study component, allowing students to benefit from both interactive, scheduled learning and flexible, independent study.
Space in the training program is limited and is filling up quickly, so we recommend early registration. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the course is full.
Our hybrid course structure offers a dynamic and flexible learning experience through 2 main components:
Live real-time classes with experienced language coaches for 2 hours each week. These interactive classes focus on language interpreting practice and terminology study, tailored to your specific language group.
Complement your live classes with flexible, self-directed learning. Access your course materials and assessments to reinforce your knowledge and track your progress at your own pace.
Final Oral and Written Tests (week 7)
At the end of the course students will take final oral and written tests online.
This combination of live interaction and independent self-study allows for a comprehensive understanding of Government and national Security interpreting and translation.
