ONLINE INTRODUCTION TO INTERPRETING COURSE
This Online Introduction to Interpreting Training course is a practical and theoretical introduction to interpreting in different professional settings (medical, legal, business, community, immigration, education, etc.). The course is taught in English and includes bilingual language and interpreting practice with live instructors online.
We will use a number of different course materials, videos, and audio presentations as a basis for our discussion of important professional topics, including:
- interpreter ethics
- ethical decision making
- interpreting models
- professional standards of practice
You will complete readings in advance, and then we will have discussions/forums and do other activities and assignments that will help to reinforce what you have read.
You will also learn how to develop your interpreting skills in order to improve your accuracy and techniques for managing the flow of communication when interpreting.
This course is offered in: Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian, Chinese and Haitian Creole.
You will do interpreting exercises and role-plays, although you will not be formally assessed on your work in your second language. This course will involve quite a lot of group work, mostly done over Zoom. This is a great opportunity to improve your spoken communication skills, build your vocabulary in different areas and to get to know other interpreters.
