ONLINE PUBLIC SERVICE & EDUCATIONAL INTERPRETING CERTIFICATE TRAINING
Course Description
The Online Public Service and Educational Interpreting Certificate Course includes intensive instruction in subjects such as public services, government affairs, legal issues, and education.
The course introduces participants to public service and educational interpreter roles and skills, interpreter ethics, and public service and educational terminology in both English and the target language. Students will gain an understanding of the public services and educational system in the US and review DTA and DMA Case Studies, Interpreting for the Department of Children and Families, Interpreting for public schools, Interpreting for DUA recipients, court hearings, housing, finance etc.
What does Public Service and Educational Interpreting Certificate Training include?
The Public Service and Educational Interpreting Training Course consists of 2 parts:
Part 1: Core Competencies
Public Service and Educational Interpreter Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice (including case studies, role-plays and cultural comparisons).
Part 2: Language Practice
Interpreting Practice that includes language coaching, professional terminology and role-plays in English and the target language. The Language Practice is taught by professional interpreters who are native speakers of the target language.

Public Service and Educational Interpreting Certificate Training course covers the following subjects:
- Role of Public Service & Educational Interpreters
- Public Service & Educational Interpreter's Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
- Immigration Interpreting
- DTA and DMA Case Studies
- Interpreting for the Department of Children and Families
- Interpreting for DUA recipients
- Interpreting for Court Hearings
- Interpreting for public schools
- Developing Interpreting Skills (note taking, memory exercises)
- Language Practice (vocabulary-building exercises and role-play)
- Final Test
Entrance Criteria for Public Service & Educational Interpreter Training Course:
- Participants must meet the following pre-requisites in order to participate in the program:
- High school diploma or equivalency;
- Oral proficiency in English and the target language (to be determined during screening interview);
- Ability to read and write at advanced level in English and the target language;
- Successful completion of phone language assessment test;
To be accepted into the program, applicants must pass an Oral Language Assessment Pre-Test and demonstrate fluency and literacy skills in English and the target language.
