Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:

Portuguese Translator / Interpreter  will be directly responsible to the Registration Center and Translation Services Manager and through him/her to the Superintendent of Schools

Statement of Duties:  

  • Responsible for written and oral translation of school documents, including, but not limited to,
    • School communication to families
    • Teacher/parent communication
    • Individual Education Plans
    • District-wide school messenger
    • Aiding administration in parent outreach
  • Ensures all "school to home" communications are translated appropriately.
  • Maintains electronic data base of all translations
  • Aids in translation for parents registering in the Parent Outreach Center
  • Supports the Administrative Assistant in the Registration and Parent Outreach Center
  • Flexible schedule to include evening parent open houses and conferences
  • Assumes other duties as may be assigned by the Building Administrators

Job Description: Qualifications: • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Portuguese • Strong interpersonal skills as he or she deals directly with the public on a daily basis • Must be able to work well as part of a team • Must be self-motivated, flexible, very well organized • Must be detailed oriented, with analytical and problem solving skills, along with customer service abilities and other related characteristics • Be familiar with computers and computer software programs particularly Excel and Microsoft Office including Microsoft Outlook. Ability with data base programs such as Aspen are a plus. Be familiar with using the Internet. • Responsible for other general duties as indicated by the Registration Center and Translation Services Manager, Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools/ Assistant Superintendents may find appropriate and acceptable.
