Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent is preferred.
  • Excellence and fluency in Spanish and English languages, both spoken and written
  • Medical Interpreter Training: A minimum of 70-80 hours of education in Interpreting skills, Medical vocabulary and terminology, Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. Training certificate and any proof of attendance to continuous education are required.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting as a medical interpreter with strong medical vocabulary (including vocabulary of medical specialties) and Translation skills into and from working/target languages.
  • National Medical Interpreter certification (CCHI-Certification Commission for Health Care or NBCMI-National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters) strongly preferred or process started.
  •  IMIA membership required.
  • Must pass oral/written/performance skills assessment (s) prior to hire.

Job Description: Skills: • Must have strong interpreting skills. Ability to accurately work in consecutive, simultaneous mode into and from working language(s) and encourages and fosters direct communication between provider and patient/family members. • Must have good written and verbal communication skills and be able to work with a multidisciplinary team. • Familiarity and ability to work with diversity of cultural/socioeconomic backgrounds and understands a variety of regional linguistic styles and registers. • Ability in dealing with complex, sensitive, and emotional issues. • Ability to work well under pressure and manage stressful situations. • Good organizational and time management skills. Demonstrate flexibility to meet scheduling needs and be able to handle unpredictable changes and multiple tasks. • Good interpersonal skills with high level of customer service and team building. • Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision. • Knowledge of computer systems.
